What a chat looks like
My drawings always look flat. Why?
Usually it is value: not enough darks. Try this: pick one light source, then squint at your subject. Shade everything that is away from the light, and push your darkest shadow twice as dark as feels comfortable.
I drew an apple and added a shadow under it.
Great. Now add a thin lighter edge on the shadow side, where light bounces back from the table. That reflected light is what makes it round.
